拉面 La Mian World

the quest for the perfect noodle

When you get the opportunity to get some Austrian food prepared by an Austrian chef in Singapore you just cannot say ‘no’.  So, yes I said to ‘table at 7’ for a special Austrian lunch prepared by chef Karl Dobler.

Even though not exactly La Mian, there were Spaetzle on the menu which are part of the large worldwide family of noodles. Spaetzle are prepared with the dough not being pulled but usually pressed or grated with some dedicated device. However, I chose to go for some all time Austrian classics and personal favorites: Leberknoedelsuppe as starter, Tafelspitz for main course and of course Apfelstrudel for desert.

The soup broth of the Leberknoedelsuppe was mouth-watering and the overall taste of the Knoedel excellent although a bit too chunky for my taste. The Tafelspitz was already one notch up from the soup. The meat so tender and tasty, together with the apple horse radish a perfect combination. The absolute highlight was the outstanding and best Apfelstrudel I had in ages. Wow, I could have eaten one piece after another. Unfortunately the set lunch came only with one piece of Apfelstrudel.

An overall great experience was rounded off by some Austrian Schnapps from best of schnapps.
